How to Start Eating Gluten-Free — Part 1 ‘Choosing to Live WITH not Without’

For six years I have been a big coupon user and have grown a very decent stockpile!  When I found out that I had to start eating Gluten-Free I panicked!  The first thing I did was look at this…..

And this…..

Those are pictures of my stockpile right before I went Gluten-Free!  I looked at this and cried, about 90% of the items in my stockpile I could no longer eat….So what do you do when this happens?  You can either choose to look at what you can’t have OR you can look at what you can have!

When first going Gluten-Free, you are overwhelmed at what you can’t eat, but I want to encourage you that if you look at what you CAN EAT, the transition can be much smoother.  When you are first going Gluten-Free, I recommend sticking to ‘naturally gluten-free foods’.

Some examples of Naturally Gluten-Free foods are:

  • Meat
  • Rice
  • Potatoes
  • Fruits and Vegetables

Many of these foods are things that you are probably already eating, but the thought of going Gluten-Free is still overwhelming!  Think of things that you like to eat and then find Gluten-Free Alternatives to them.  Bread crumbs have Gluten in them, so replace them with Schar Gluten-Free breadcrumbs which are delicious!  By focusing on what you can have, it becomes a lot less overwhelming, because the truth is….You will not starve!  You will find ways to overcome and figure out how to feed yourself and your family!

What are ways that you choose to live WITH and not without?

Stay tuned for the rest of this series about How to Start Eating Gluten-Free.

I am trying to find a bread or bread Recipe that mine 8 year old will eat.

Have you tried Pamela’s Bread Mix – that is our favorite and if you slice it very thin ,it makes a very good sandwich bread.

My 7 year old daughter likes the EnerG Light Tapioca Bread toasted with butter. That is her favorite. Whole Foods Sandwhich Bread is also good. To be honest, bread is one of the hardest. Most of them are good for toast, sandwhiches are much harder.
